Young pacer Hasan Mahmud stated that he wants to take 500 wickets across all formats before the end of his cricketing career.
The 23-year-old conceded just five runs in his death overs and picked up two crucial wickets during the first T20I, including the wicket of England skipper Jos Buttler.
Bangladesh won the first T20 against England by six wickets, thanks to a 30 ball-51 of Najmul Hossain Shanto but everyone who followed the game knew it was Hasan who changed the momentum of the game, with classical display of death over bowling.
Hasan ended up 2-26, including the key wicket of Jos Buttler who threatened to take the game away. England who looked set to take the total past at least 180, ended up with 156-6, a score that Bangladesh overhauled with ease.
Before taking the wicket of Buttler who blasted 42 ball-67, Hasan tasted two consecutive sixes but as brilliant as it is for a young guy, he held the nerve impeccably against one of the most dangerous T20 batter of the world.
“I always think ball by ball and I don’t get disarray even I bowl one bad delivery. I try to stick to my strength. And that time I like to show my character. I love to take the challenge indeed,” Hasan said on Saturday as Bangladesh geared up for the second T20 against England.
Hasan believed that bowling against India in a T20 World Cup match last year helped him to quell the fear factor that came as handy against England in the first match. Hasan in that match took 3-47 to be the top wicket-taker even though Bangladesh lost that eventful match.
“That match was my first against India in the World Cup. To be honest if there is any fear factor, it was removed after bowling against that batting line up. So that eased the pressure,” said Hasan Mahmud who claimed eight wickets in six ODIs and 15 wickets in 11 T20 Internationals, so far.
Hasan’s little International career was interrupted by injury, which snatched at least one and half year from him. But the man who made debut in 2020 with a T20 against Zimbabwe didn’t give up as he came back strongly to make a statement.
