Role of innovative technology in promoting gender equality stressed

Every year on March 8, International Women’s Day is observed to spread the message of gender equality to create a better society free of gender bias. The day celebrates women and addresses issues such as women’s equal rights, violence and abuse against women, and reproductive rights
The United Nations Charter in 1945 became the first international agreement to affirm the principle of equality between men and women. Later, on March 8, 1975, during the International Women’s Year, the UN observed its first official International Women’s Day. This year’s theme as “Digital: Innovation and technology for gender equality” to emphasize the importance of technology in bringing gender issues to light.
 In Kishoreganj, Department of Women Affairs, Mohila Parishad, NGOs including District Administration have arranged various programmes likes rally, human chain, discussion, handbills distribution etc marking the International Women’s Day on Wednesday.
A discussion meeting was held at local Collectorate Conference Hall on Wednesday morning.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) in Kishoreganj Mohammad Abul Kalam Azad, as chief guest and Police Super (SP) Mohammad Rasel Sheikh PPM (Bar), Ruling Awami League district general secretary advocate M. A Afzol were special guests while ADC( General) & DS Golam Mostafa presided over.
It was addressed among others by Mamunur Rashid, Deputy Director of Women affairs, Senior Medical Officer Dr.Mahabubur Rahman of Civil Surgeon Office, Jatiya Mohila Sangstha district chairman Mansura Zaman Nutun, Mohila Parishad district president advocate Maya Bhowmick, Mohila Awami League district general secretary Bilkis Begum, District Press Club president Mostafa Kamal, Veteran Freedom Fighter Professor (Retd.) M.A Gani and Shafiul Islam of BRAC. Later, a colour full rally, organised by Department of Women Affairs brought out in the town marking the day.
Senior Staff Reporter, Rangpur says: A discussion meeting and honors ceremony was held in Rangpur on the occasion of International Women’s Day organized by District Administration, Rangpur and Women’s Affairs Department. The event was held at Rangpur Town Hall on Wednesday.
Mr. Md. Sabirul Islam, Divisional Commissioner, Rangpur Division, Rangpur were present as the chief guest on the occasion.
Dr. Chitralekha Nazin, Deputy Commissioner, Rangpur presided over the event. On the occasion, the guests highlighted the significance of Women’s Day and highlighted the role of women on the path of building a better Bangladesh.
This year’s main theme of the Day is “Digital technology and innovation, will discriminate against gender”.
At the end of the meeting, two women were honored.
BSS from Rajshahi reports : Various government and non-government development organisations observed the International Women’s Day-2023 befittingly here Wednesday with the unanimous call of freeing the womenfolk from all sorts of violence, disparity and discrimination for overall development of the nation.
This year’s theme, “DigitALL: Innovation and technology for gender equality,” highlights the role of innovative technology in promoting gender equality and meeting the health and developmental needs of women and girls.
Marking the day, the district administration and department of women affairs jointly organised a post-rally discussion meeting at the conference hall of Human Resource Development Training Centre in Rajshahi city.
Advocate Adiba Anjum Mita, MP, addressed the meeting as chief guest, while Additional Commissioner of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police Samsun Nahar spoke as special guest with Deputy Director of Local Government Shahana Akhter Jahan in the chair.
