Election of five cities in September

Staff Reporter :
The Election Commissioner of Bangladesh, Md. Alamgir has announced that the elections for five city corporations will be held by September of this year. Of these, two expiring city corporations will have elections in June, and the remaining three in September. The exact dates for the polls have not yet been finalized.
Alamgir stated that they will try to hold the elections for the city corporations earlier, before the national elections at the end of December this year or the first week of January. According to the law, city elections must be held within six months of the expiration of the term.
The five city corporations that will have elections are Gazipur, Rajshahi, Khulna, Sylhet, and Barishal. The Mymensingh City Corporation election will not be held in conjunction with the others, as it is running late.
When asked if the polls will be held on a single day, Alamgir clarified that it will not be possible to hold all the polls on a single day. The elections for the five cities may be held over the course of two or three days.
Alamgir noted that they have the desire to hold elections in two cities in the month of June, but the date has not been decided yet. The cities whose counting will start earlier will be given priority.
