The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed a case against the former Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Satkhira Kalaroa police station Munsi Mofazzel Hossain and his wife Jasmine Sultana.
The case has been filed on the allegation of illegal acquisition of Tk three and a quarter crore.
On Wednesday (March 1), the ACC’s assistant director Ashikur Rahman filed the case with its integrated district office, Dhaka-2. The case was brought under Section 27(1) of the ACC Act 2004.
The inquiry of the ACC revealed that former OC Munshi Mofazzel Hossain owns two (9-storey and 4-storey) buildings in Savar in the name of himself and his wife.
Accused Mofazzel Hossain tried to legitimise the illegally earned money by exchanging a loan of Tk 87 lakh from his wife and showing it in the income tax records of both.
According to the statement of the case, the ACC got information about the acquisition of assets worth Tk 4 crore 89 lakh 29 thousand 166 in the name of the accused Mofazzel. However, the ACC found an acceptable income of 3 Tk. crore 78 lakh 27 thousand in the investigation. As a result, Tk. 1 crore 11 lakh 1 thousand 210 is inconsistent with the known source of income.
Later, a case was filed against Mofazzel under Section 27(1) of the ACC Act 2004 for illegally acquiring these assets.
On the other hand, the ACC found evidence of illegal wealth acquisition of Tk 1 crore 59 lakh 68 thousand 265 against the accused Mofazzel’s wife Jasmine Sultana. Later she was also accused in the case. Jasmine has no legitimate source of income. Her husband, Munsi Mofazzel Hossain, while serving as an inspector in the Bangladesh Police Force, put money earned through bribery and corruption in his wife’s name to legitimise it.
