Body of college student recovered from Gumani River

Police have recovered the dead body of a college student named Nafiz Hasan Nayan (19) from Gumani river in Bhangura upazila of Pabna. Victim Nayan is said to be the son of Iqbal Hossain of Rautara village in Shahjadpur upazila of Shahjadpur upazila of Sirajganj district and a 12th standard student of Dhanmondi Ideal School and College in the capital.
According to the police, the local people saw the body floating in the Gumani river near the Kaidanga railway bridge and pulled it to the bank. A mobile phone was found in the pant pocket of the body. Police confirmed the identity of the dead body was found by calling his relatives from there.
Md Rashidul Islam,Officer-in-charge of Bhangura police station admitted the truth of the incident and said that the exact cause of the boy’s death was not known. However, it is believed that he may have died after falling from the train.
When Iqbal Hossain, father of the victim was contacted on mobile phone, he said that his son may have been called and killed due to love affair. He also said that he was in the bus on the way to Bhangura police station.
The deceased’s father did not reach the Bhangura police station till the writing of this report at 5:30 pm. OC Md Rashidul Islam said that the body will be sent to Pabna district morgue for post-mortem in the afternoon and said that legal action will be taken if a murder complaint is received. Assistant Superintendent of Police Md. Habibul Islam visited the spot.
