31 lakh kgs of edible oil to produce in Adamdighi

The bumper mustard yield has been achieved in Adamdighi Upazila of Bogra. At the end of threshing, about 31 lakh kg of edible oil and 52 lakh kg of animal and fish feed will be produced.
 It is known five or six years ago mustard has not been cultivated on five thousand bigha land in Adamdighi upazila. But due to the corona pandemic and the Russia-Ukraine war, the prices of imported edible oil soybeans and palm oil continued to rise. In this situation, the government and farmers are shaken. The government started encouraging farmers to grow mustard, an edible oil crop with faviours facilities including providing free mustard seeds and essential fertilizers to farmers through incentives. The cultivation of mustard, an oil-like crop, started to increase.
 In this way, mustard has been cultivated on 30 thousand bighas of land in Adamdighi this year. The yield has also been bumper. Upazila Agriculture Department and farmers said that yellow and black varieties of mustard are yielding at an average rate of 7 per bigha. According to that, 30 thousand bighas of land will meet about 2 lakh 10 thousand tons of mustard.
Azam Hossain, a farmer of Komarpur village in the upazila, said that most of the land was left uncultivated before the Boro cultivation after harvesting the Aman paddy. But for the last 2/3 years, the farmers of the upazila including him are cultivating mustard instead of leaving the land uncultivated. It is going to be very profitable. Excluding the cost of mustard cultivation, the profit per bigha is at least Tk 15,000 along with this, money is also being saved for the purchase of edible oil required by the family. with supply of cattle feed . That’s a big savings, too. He hopes to get a good profit by selling about 280 tons of mustard obtained after harvesting and threshing the mustard from all the lands. Afzal Hossain, a small farmer of Dalamba village, said, he has cultivated Bari-14 variety of mustard on one bigha of land under the government incentives. At least 6/7 mounds of mustard will be obtained. As an additional crop, the profit will be around Tk 20,000. The owners of oil mills producing oil commercially said that the average yield of oil from yellow and black mustard is 15 kg. According to that, about 31 lakh kg of mustard oil will be obtained from that amount of mustard. Khail will be about 52 lakh kg. Adamdighi Upazila Agriculture Officer Mithu Chandra Adhikari said that the government wants to get out of dependence on the import of edible oil due to various reasons including Russia and Ukraine war, dollar crisis and price increase.
This year, 3,000 kg of mustard seeds and 60,000 kg of non-urea fertilizers have been given free of charge to 3,000 farmers in Adamdighi upazila.
