Abdul Halim (72), a valiant freedom fighter of Narayanganj Sadar Upazila, was killed by his son for greed of property, not by robber, said Mohammad Monirul Islam, Superintendent of Police (SP) of Narayanganj.
He said this in a press conference at the headquarters of the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) in Dhanmondi of the capital on Sunday.
Victim Abdul Halim lived in his house in Maulabazar area of Dharmaganj under Fatulla police station of Narayanganj Sadar upazila. He was killed at his home on the night of January 31. PBI has investigated the case filed with the Fatulla Model Police Station.
PBI official Monirul Islam said that his only son HM Masud (42) killed Abdul Halim along with an accomplice for greed of property.
Later, the son staged the drama to divert the murder incident to a different way. But he was not saved. The real story came out after the arrest of Masud’s accomplice. Masud is absconding outside the country.
Monirul Islam said that after the death of his wife, Abdul Halim lived in the house of Mawlabazar area with his only son Masud. Masud lived with his wife and children in the same house.
Masud suspects that the father may divide his property among his sisters. He plans to kill his father to acquire all the property himself. PBI official Monirul Islam said that as planned, Masud made an agreement with the local auto driver Rubel to kill his father for five lakh taka.
On the night of January 31, he took Rubel with him and strangled his father. Then stage a heist drama. Masud tied his own hands and feet with the help of auto driver. When he screamed, people from the other flat went and untied him.
Abdul Halim’s son-in-law filed a case as a plaintiff in the murder case.
According to PBI, they arrested the auto driver Rubel after interrogating various persons with the help of information technology. When he was interrogated, the main mystery of the murder came out, SP said.
Rubel gave a confessional statement before a magistrate, revealing Masud’s involvement in the murder.
PBI is now trying to arrest Masud, Monirul added.
