Bangladesh’s sprinter Imranur Rahman won gold in the 60m sprint at the Asian Indoor Athletics Championship. The 29-year-old sprinter clocked his best timing of 6.59 seconds to win the gold medal in Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan on Saturday night.
The England-born athlete Imranur, the two-time fastest sprinter of Bangladesh, had clocked 6.70 seconds in the heats – finishing third — earlier in the morning to seal a semifinal berth. Then he improved his timing to 6.61 seconds to move into the final as the second best, finishing second only on photo-finish.
He became the first Bangladeshi to win a gold medal at the Asian Indoor Athletics Championship whose 10th edition is currently going on.
Imranur took 6.61 seconds to finish the semi-final race on the same day to secure the second spot only on photo-finish.
His previous personal best timing was 6.64 seconds during the World Indoor Athletics held in Belgrade last year.
Earlier on the same day, the 29-year-old finished top in his respective heat in 6.70 seconds.
Shirin Akter, Bangladesh’s fastest woman, had seen the exit door from the heats after clocking 7.93 seconds.
