UNHCR renews contract with Tahsan as Goodwill Ambassador for 2 more years
Entertainment Desk :
Popular Bangladeshi musician,
television actor and model Tahsan Khan renewed his commitment to serve as Goodwill Ambassador in Bangladesh for UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency. Having been a key advocate for refugees for years, Tahsan signed an agreement to further his work with UNHCR and refugees for two more years, according to
a press release.
While talking in this regard, Tahsan told media, “It has been an honor serving as a voice promoting the humanitarian cause as the Goodwill Ambassador of UNHCR. I am happy that I will keep on working for the refugees in coming days. I hope I can make a bigger impact in raising awareness and bringing harmony between host communities and refugees through my work with UNHCR.”
Tahsan Khan has been supporting UNHCR’s advocacy and outreach activities since 2019. He has visited the Rohingya refugee camps in Cox’s Bazar every year and has supported UNHCR in raising awareness about the needs, challenges and hopes of refugees. Tahsan has witnessed the challenging Rohingya refugee situation and the developments in the humanitarian response in Cox’s Bazar, met with refugees, and deepened his understanding of the root causes of displacement. He has been promoting solidarity and empathy, underlining how refugees did not choose to leave their homes but have been forced by violence to flee their country.
Tahsan is one of the 40 UNHCR Goodwill Ambassadors globally, who help to highlight the situation of refugees and the work of UNHCR in every corner of the world, through their influence, dedication and hard work. Goodwill Ambassadors help draw attention to the need of refugees and other forcibly displaced people to be protected, live decently and find solutions for their plight.
Five years after being forced to flee violence in Myanmar, some 923,000 Rohingya refugees are currently hosted in densely populated camps in Cox’s Bazar, with an additional 30,000 refugees residing on Bhasan Char.
