Rangpur Riders stunned Sylhet Strikers in Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) Cricket defeating the hosts by six wickets in their seventh match at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium on Friday.
After yesterday’s outcome, Sylhet Strikers gained 12 points from eight matches, while Rangpur Riders earned eight points from seven matches.
Chasing Sylhet’s meager total of 92 for the loss of nine wickets in the allotted 20 overs, Rangpur Riders sailed home scoring 93 for the loss of four wickets when they had 26 balls to spare.
Rangpur Riders had a modest start as openers Mohammad Naim and Rony Talukdar put on together 27 runs before Naim (18) was caught by Imad Wasim off Rejaur Rahman Raja.
After Naim’s departure, Rangpur faced a debacle as they lost more three wickets for 66 runs.
Later, Rony Talukdar and Mohammad Nawaz guided their team to chase the victory target scoring together 27 runs for the unbroken fifth wicket partnership.
Rony Talukdar remained unbeaten with 41 runs. His 38-ball innings saw two sixes and two fours.
Nawaz remained unbeaten with 18 runs. His 13-ball knock had two sixes and one four.
Mashrafe Bin Mortaza bagged two wickets in the space of 18 runs, while Rejaur Rahman Raja and Mohammad Amir took one wicket each conceding 23 and 26 runs respectively.
Sylhet Strikers faced disaster as they lost their seven wickets for 18 runs.
Then, sixth-down Tanzim Hasan Sakib and seventh-down Mashrafe Bin Mortaza repaired the damage contributing together 48 runs in the eighth wicket stand before Mashrafe Bin Mortaza was caught by Robiul Haque off Hasan Mahmud when Sylhet’s total was 66 for the loss of eight wickets.
After Mashrafe’s dismissal, Tanzim Hasan Sakib and Mohammad Amir added together 19 runs for the ninth wicket partnership before Tanzim Hasan was bowled out by Hasan Mahmud when Sylhet’s score was 85 for the loss of nine wickets.
Tanzim Hasan notched up a polished 41. His 36-ball innings was laced with five fours and two sixes.
Mashrafe Bin Mortaza hit a run-a-ball 21 runs including two sixes.
Hasan Mahmud, Azmatullah Omarzai and Mahedi Hasan played the key role to restrict Sylhet to a paltry total.
Hasan Mahmud and Azmatullah Omarzai captured three wickets each instead of 12 and 17 runs respectively. Omarzai was adjudged the Man of the Match.
Mahedi Hasan grabbed a pair of wickets at the cost of 12 runs.
Besides, Haris Rauf took one wicket for 19 runs.
