No X-ray facilities in the 59 pc upazila health complex: BSMMU

Among the upazila health complexes, 59 per cent have no X-ray facilities, either for a lack of an X-ray machine or for the machine being defunct. 41 per cent upazila health complexes could not facilitate the blood transfusion process while 63 percent upazila hospitals have no Residential Medical Officer (RMO).
A group of researcher led by Associate Professor Dr. Md. Khalequzzaman of the Public Health and Informatics Department in Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) revealed these information based on a research published on Monday.
Based on the nine district hospitals and 17 upazila health complexes the research was conducted between March 2021 and April 2021 the study titled ”Challenges faced by doctors in providing healthcare services in the district” which was funded by BSMMU and Hospital Services Management of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS). While presenting the findings Dr. Md. Khalequzzaman said that 73 per cent upazila health complexes unable to provide electrocardiogram (ECG) service. Even 88 per cent upazila hospitals have no ultra sonogram facilities either.
Considering the district hospitals only 55.6 per cent can provide ultra sonogram facilities. No X-ray and ECG facilities in 11 per cent in district level hospitals.
The post of residential medical officer is vacant in 30 per cent in district hospitals. Functional dormitory or residential facilities for doctors are also not available even in district level hospitals, the study said.
In the programme Ministry of Health and Family Welfare’s Minister Zahid Maleque, former Prime Minister Advisor for health Sayed Mudassar Ali, BSMMU Vice-Chancellor Dr Md Sarfuddin Ahamed, DG of health education Dr Titu Mia, among others were present.
