Govt destroys the spirit of liberation war: BNP

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir accused the ruling Awami League government of destroying the spirit of the liberation war of 1971.
Mirza Fakhrul said it in a press briefing following a joint meeting of the party and its associate bodies held at BNP’s Nayapaltan central office in the capital on Saturday on the occasion of the 87th birth anniversary of the party’s founder late President Ziaur Rahman.
The BNP leader announced a 10-day programme to observe the birth anniversary of its party founder on January 19.
Mirza Fakhrul said, “The AL government has destroyed the spirit of the liberation war. They are jeopardising the country’s judiciary system from working independently. We want to build a democratic Bangladesh
 through the realisation of 10-point demand of the party.”
The BNP leader said participation of people in its movement are increasing as the tyranny of the government increased. “People of the country have now wakened up. Already 15 leaders and activists of BNP died in police firing and torture carried out by the Awami League led criminals,” Mirza Fakhrul said.
He said, “More than 600 leaders of BNP have been made disappeared in the past 15 years while thousands of leaders and activists have been killed. False cases have been filed against 34-40 lakh people and still more than 1000 BNP leaders including Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, Abdus Salam, Khairul Kabir and Shimul Biswas are in jail.”
BNP Standing Committee Member Mirza Abbas, Vice-Chairman Barkat Ullah Bulu, Dhaka city north unit Convener Amanullah Aman and Joint-Secretary General Syed Moazzem Hossain Alal, among others were present at the briefing.
