936 women raped in 2022 47 killed, 7 committed suicides

A total of 936 women were raped across the country in 2022, according to the latest data of rights organization Ain O Salish Kendra (ASK). Among the victims, 47 were killed and 7 committed suicide after rape, the data also showed.
A total of 659 cases were filed in the rape incidents and no information of case filing over 277 incidents was found. Apart from this, 158 attempts to rape were made by the culprits, the data also read.
In the year 2021, a total of 1321 women were raped across the country. Among the victims, 47 were killed and 9 committed suicide after rape.
Supreme Court lawyer and human rights activist Barrister Shanjid Siddique said that failure of the criminal justice system to promptly hold trial and impose punishment upon the offenders even if they are found guilty is the main cause of continuous violence against woman, in spite of the legislature’s endeavor to enact stringent laws.
Most of the cases of violence against woman are settled out of the courts or that the offenders intimidate the witnesses and those who impede the proceedings against them are major bars to reduce the violence, added the lawyer.
Domestic violence victimized a total of 479 women throughout the year 2022. Among the victims, 206 women were murdered by their husbands, 44 were murdered by husbands’ family members, 42 murdered by own families and 97 committed suicide.
A total of 161 women were sexually harassed in the year. Among the victims, 141 women were assaulted by the stalkers and 11 women were injured by them. A total of seven women committed suicide after being harassed by the stalkers.
A total of 86 males were also sexually harassed in that year, the data showed.
At least 13 women were victimized by the acid attack in the year. One woman was attacked for refusing love affair and one woman was attacked by husband for dowry, one was attacked for refusing marriage proposal. Four of the acid victims died after the attack. Eight cases were filed for the incidents and no information was found for filing cases in five incidents.
A total of 174 women were victimized due to dowry related violence throughout the year of 2022. At least 79 women were killed by physical torture and seven women committed suicide after being physically tortured for the issue. A total of 123 cases were reported over the dowry related violence and no information was found in at least 50 incidents of violence.
At least six women were victimised due to fatwa and salish. Four women were physically and mentally tortured by imposing false allegation on their character and two of the victim women committed suicide.
Throughout the year, different kinds of violence victimised a total of 1088 children who are under 18. A total of 561 children were raped, attempt to rape was taken for 103 children including two boy children. A total of 109 students were tortured by their teachers and 23 children were sexually harassed by their teachers and 19 children were missing in the year.
At least 52 boy children were sexually harassed, 62 children were harassed by the stalkers and 9 domestic workers were tortured in the year.
