Tipu-Preeti murder, probe report deferred to Feb 27

The Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka yesterday fixed February 27 for submitting the probe report in the case lodged over the sensational murder of Awami League leader Jahidul Islam Tipu and college student Samia Afrin Preeti in the city’s Shahjahanpur area.
Wednesday (January 11) was earlier fixed for submitting the probe report, but the Investigation Officer of the case could not submit the report, prompting Metropolitan Magistrate Rajesh Chowdhury of Dhaka CMM Court to fix the new date.
Tipu, 55, who was on his microbus destined for his home from his restaurant in Motijheel AGB Colony area, was shot dead by a masked assailant in the capital’s Shahjahanpur area in the night of March 24 last year. His vehicle was stuck at a traffic light signal of inter-section when attackers arrived there by a motorcycle and fired indiscriminately.  
Rickshaw passenger, college student Samia Afran Jamal Preeti,22, who was on a rickshaw next to the vehicle, was also shot in the incident.
The two were declared dead at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
Tipu’s wife Farhana Islam Dolly filed the case with Shahjahanpur Police Station on March 25, last year.
Detective Branch (DB) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police arrested main shooter Masum Mohammad alias Akash from Bogura. During primary interrogation, Masum admitted that he killed Tipu. Police so far arrested 25 people in connection with the incident.
