Ten thousand pieces of yaba recovered
A passenger with ten thousand pieces of Yaba tablets was arrested in a raid on a passenger bus going from Barishal to Kalapara in Patuakhali.
The detained Rafiqul Islam (36) is the son of Wahed Fakir of Itabaria area under Patuakhali Sadar Police Station.
A team of the Barishal Divisional Intelligence Office of the Narcotics Control Directorate conducted this raid on the Kuakata-Barishal highway on Sunday (January 08) morning based on secret information.
Enayet Hossain, assistant director of Narcotics Control Directorate Barishal office confirmed the matter.
He said that the passenger bus named Sekander Paribahan from Barisal to Kalapara was stopped on the highway near Siali Bazar under Patuakhali Sadar police station.
After searching inside the bus, ten thousand pieces of Yaba tablets were recovered from Rafiqul who was sitting in seat number three. Besides, a mobile set was also seized from him.
Bakery fined for using date-expired colours
A mobile court has fined a business establishment total Tk.50 thousand for making cakes using unhealthy environment and date-expired colours.
On Sunday (January 08) afternoon, under the leadership of Executive Magistrate of Barishal District Administration Lucky Das, the operation was conducted against a Pastry Shop and cake manufacturing company, on BM College Road area in the city.
Lucky Das said that this campaign was conducted in the city under the direction of deputy commissioner Barishal Jahangir Hossain.
During the drive the Pastry Shop was fined Tk. 50,000 for violating BSTI’s license conditions, illegally using date-expired colors and manufacturing products in unsanitary environment. Later, the date-expired chemicals and dyes were destroyed.
Executive Magistrate Lucky Das said that such operations will continue to protect public interest.
School girl commits suicide
A schoolgirl named Laboni Akhtar (13) committed suicide by hanging herself in shame of her family.
Laboni, who committed suicide, is the daughter of daily laborer Alhaj Sardar of Beluhar village in Agoiljhara upazila of Barishal.
She was a seventh grade student of Seral Bahumukhi Secondary School of that upazila.
Relatives of the deceased in the hospital compound said that on Sunday afternoon, Labani hanged herself by twisting a veil around her neck in her house after defying her family.
She was rescued and taken to Gourandi Upazila Hospital where the doctor on duty declared him dead. But the relatives could not tell why she (Labani) was jealous of the family.
One released on bond, another sent to jail
One released on bond for catching Shapla-Pata fish in Patharghata and another sent to jail for attempt to smuggle Gecko in Amtali upazila under Barguna district
A fish-trader named Kabir was detained by Coast Guard at Patharghata upazila under Barguna district with 150 kg or about 4 mounds of Shapla-Pata fish.
Kabir is the son of Abul Bashar of Padma village of Patharghata Sadar Union and detained in front of Patharghata Upazila Health Complex on Friday (January 6) morning.
Lieutenant Shafayet Abrar, Pathrghata CG station commander, said detained Kabir was released on bond in the presence of the Patharghata Forest Department.
The scientific name of the fish is Himantura imbricata. English name is Leopard Stingray.
This species of fish is found in shallow seas and roams around the bottom.
Shapla-Pata fish is delicious to eat and contain vitamins and minerals such as vitamin B12 and vitamin D. Contains 20 percent protein.
However, many studies have pointed out that there are some disadvantages of eating this fish due to the presence of mercury.
Eating Shapla-Pata fish may cause cancer, heart, kidney and liver damage, dementia (amnesia), hormonal imbalance and bleeding in pregnancy.
In addition, the tail of this fish is very poisonous. It can cause nausea and weakness if it injures the human body. There may even be unconsciousness.
