Detective Branch (DB) of police arrested five people on charge of spreading rumours about the country’s banking sector.
They were arrested from different areas of the city on Sunday night.
DMP’s Additional Commissioner Harun-or-Rashid confirmed the matter to the media in a press briefing in the DMP’s media centre on Monday.
The arrestees have been identified as Mohammad Nur Un Nabi, Md Afsar Uddin Roman, Md Abu Sayid Saju, Md Shadhin Mia, and Md Abdus Salam.
A vested quarter of Jamaat-e-Islami and Shibir is spreading about the country’s banking sector. They spread rumours about S Alam Group, Islami Bank and other banks and financial institutions by pasting posters all over the country apart from using social media.
“They found that several people, including the arrested men, are spreading fabricated information in various parts of the country including through social media, with the help of ‘anti-independence conspirators’ in the country and abroad,” DMP’s Additional Commissioner added.
