Sylhet Strikers retained their winning streak defeating Comilla Victorians by five wickets in their third match of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) Cricket at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in the city’s Mirpur on Monday.
Chasing Comilla’s total of 149 for the loss of six wickets in 20 overs, Sylhet sailed home scoring 150 for the loss of five wickets when they had 14 balls to spare.
Towhid Hridoy of Sylhet played the key role to chase the Comilla’s target. He hammered a windy 56. He hit four sixes and three fours in his 37-ball knock. He was adjudged the Man of the Match for his marvelous innings.
Comilla Victorians lost their early three wickets for 46 runs.
Opener Dawid Malan and third-down Jaker Ali built a worthy partnership.
They scoring together 53 runs in the four-wicket partnership before Malan was caught by Akbar Ali off Thisara Perera when Comilla’s total was 99 for the loss of four wickets.
Jaker Ali remained unbeaten with 57 runs. His 43-ball innings was ornamented with three sixes and two fours.
Malan hit a polished 37. His 39-ball knock saw three fours.
After Malan’s dismissal, Comilla failed to build any notable partnership.
One-down Shykat Ali made 20 from 12 deliveries. He hit four fours before he was bowled out by Imad Wasim.
Mohammad Amir and Thisara Perera of Sylhet Strikers bagged two wickets each instead of 22 and 26 runs respectively.
Imad Wasim and Mashrafe Bin Mortaza took one wicket each conceding 29 and 32 runs respectively.
Later, Sylhet lost their opener Mohammad Haris (6) when Sylhet’s score was just 12 runs.
Opener Najumul Hossain Shanto and one-down Towhid Hridoy repaired the damage adding together 43 runs for the second wicket partnership before Shanto (19) was caught by Imrul Kayes off Khushdil Shah when Sylhet’s total was 55 for the loss of two wickets.
After Shanto’s departure, Towhid Hridoy and Zakir Hasan mended their innings putting together 30 runs in the third-wicket stand before Zakir was caught behind by wicketkeeper Litton Das off Mohammad Nabi when Sylhet’s score was 85 for the loss of three wickets.
Zakir made 20 from 10 balls featuring two sixes and two sixes and one fours.
After Zakir’s dismissal, Towhid Hridoy and Mushfiqur Rahim adding together 42 runs for the fourth wicket partnership before Hridoy was stumped out by Litton Das off Khushdil Shah when Sylhet’s total was 127 for the loss of four wickets.
Third-down Mushfiqur Rahim and Akbar Ali guided their team to overhaul the winning target.
Mushfiqur remained unbeaten with 28 runs. His 25-ball knock had two fours.
Mohammad Nabi and Khushdil Shah got two wickets each for 28 and 29 runs respectively.
