Fish cultivation going on blocking canal in Rangabali upazila of Patuakhali

Fish cultivation was going on by local influential blocking Doailla canal in Bhui Kanda village of Moudubi union under Rangabali upazila of Patuakhali district.
Due to this flow of water has been stopped and so local peasants deprived from irrigation sources needed for culltivating crops including watermelon cultivation and making seed-beds in the area during dry season.
On other hand water logging when it rains during monsoon season, houses and crops become marooned making unbearable sufferings for the local people as it became very difficult to get out of the house crossing submerged roads and surroundings.
After visiting the area it can be seen that the canal of Doailla is about two kilometers long with sides of 50-60 feet wide . The canal has a flood control dam on its south side and the Hari Canal on its west. However, dams and ponds have been constructed at various places in the canal stopping water flows of the canal.
Affected farmers of Bhuiyakanda village have appealed to the Rangabali Agriculture Office and Land Commissioner to cut the dam and free the canal from encroachment to eliminate the water logging and crisis of fresh water supply.
Farmers said that during the cultivation of Aman, cultivation was disrupted due to inundation caused by heavy rains.
In this way, land grabbers seizing the government land creating farm fish by stopping flow of the canal.
Local farmer Aiub Ali told it becoming difficult for us to cultivate crops as irrigation sources was stopped. Where our Prime Minister has said that even a little bit of land cannot be left vacant for farming, we cannot cultivate the entire land as influential people blocking the government canals cultivating fish while we cannot cultivate cops due to lack of irrigation sources in dry season and water logging in the monsoon. Local farmer Javid Hossain said, blocking the canal not only stopped supplying irrigational water to crop land during dry season when land needs water, but created water logging during rainy monsoon season.
