Rickshaw driver shot dead in Ishwardi

In the case of the death of a rickshaw driver named Mamun Hossain (24) in Ishwardi, 2 people have been arrested. They are Kamal Uddin, the brother of the accused Anwar Uddin, councilor of Ward 1 of the municipality and president of the Jubo League of Ward 1, and Hriday Hossain, the son of the accused. His relatives said they were taken away from their house in Shailpara in the city late on Wednesday night by the law enforcement agencies.
Those who were killed and injured in the clash between Bhatovti and Laguna are related to BNP politics and the accused are related to Awami League politics. Talking to the local residents, it is known that the dead and injured have been seen participating in BNP’s march-meetings at various times in that area. Also, police confirmed that there are 1 drug case in the name of deceased Mamun, 1 in the name of Rocky and 3 in the name of Sumon.
Sharmin Sultana Sapna, the wife of the arrested municipal councilor Kamal Uddin, said that in the middle of the night, a group of law enforcement officers dressed in police uniforms and plain clothes came to her house and arrested her husband Municipal Councilor Kamal Uddin and Anwar’s son Hriday Hossain.
Bichitra Parveen, wife of the accused Anwar Uddin said, “My husband Anwar is a Jubo League politician, but he works as a mason. The shooting is said to have been planned to frame him.
Ariful Islam Liton, general secretary of Ishwardi Municipal Jubo League, said that Anwar Uddin does not hold any position in any committee of Jubo League.
2nd Ward Awami League President Nurul Alam Biswas said that Mamun, Rocky and Sumon were seen participating in BNP programs at different times. However, I do not know where they are in the Youth Dal or Chhatra Dal. He said that Anwar Uddin and his family are involved in Awami politics.
Arbindo Sarkar, officer-in-charge of Ishwardi police station, denied the arrest of the municipal councilor and said that no case was registered in the incident till 11:30 pm on Thursday. Police have launched an operation to arrest those involved in the incident. Other police units are also investigating the incident. Councilors can be detained by any other unit of the police. There are also 1 drug cases in the name of deceased Mamun, 1 in the name of injured Rocky and 3 in the name of Sumon. Mamun’s body has been handed over to the relatives after post-mortem. He said that the police have been deployed in the area.
