Case lodged for death in Kalapara

A case has been filed accising the doctor of Kalapara Upazila Health Complex Dr. JH Khan Lenin and senior staff nurse Asma Begum alleging death of a patient due to their negligence in treatment in Kalapara of Patuakhali.
On Wednesday (January 4),Advocate Nuruzzaman Sikder, uncle of the victim Swapan Sikder, 35, filed this case in the Kalapara Senior Judicial Magistrate Court as the plaintiff.
The court directed the PBI, Patuakhali to submit the investigation report to the court within February 13. According to the court sources, on December 21, 2022, when the victim Swapan Sikder, son of Maksudur Rahman Sikder of Mohanpur village of Nilganj Union of Upazila.
 was taken to Kalapara Hospital for treatment due to respiratory problems.
The doctor on duty without giving proper sent the patient to his private Kalapara Clinic and Diagnostic Center for pathological testing with the dishonest purpose of earning money.
Then when the victim was taken to the hospital with the test report, the accused started wasting time by neglecting their duties without providing proper medical care.
At one point a nurse of emergency unit of the hospital put an oxygen mask on victim Swapan Sikdar and then he feel a little better. But immediately he was transferred to the first floor of the hospital, the oxygen mask was taken off.
Then the victim started pleading with the accused to wear the mask again as his breathing problem increased. But the accused did not put oxygen mask on him and left him without treatment saying their duty-hour was over.
In this situation patient Swapan Sikda died and so the plaintiff claims that Swapan Sikder died due to the medical negligence of the accused.
In this regard, Dr. JH Khan Lenin said, he provided proper medical care to the patient and was later went out of the hospital on official work. The allegations leveled against him are not correct.
The statement of staff nurse Asma Begum was not available after repeated attempt.
