Govt to import 1 lakh MT of rice from India, S’pore

The government has decided to procure 100,000 tonnes (MT) of rice from India and Singapore, which will cost a total of Tk 423,76,02,750.
The Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase, in a meeting with Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal in the chair, approved two separate proposals in this regard on Wednesday.
Cabinet Division Additional Secretary Syed Mahbub Khan briefed journalists after the meeting saying that two proposals of the Ministry of Food and two proposals of the Local Government Division were approved in the meeting totaling amount of Tk 739,28,33,036.
He said that one proposal placed by the Ministry of Food as the Directorate General of Food will import 50,000 tonnes of non-Basmati boiled rice from M/S Bagadiya Brothers Pvt. Ltd., India at a cost of Tk210.35 crore. The estimated cost of per kg rice will at Tk 42.7.
The supplier was selected through open international tender and each tonne of rice will cost $393.19 while previous price of similar rice was $443.05, he added.
Another proposal of the Directorate General of Food under the Ministry of Food will import the remaining 50,000 tonnes of non-Basmati boiled rice from M/S Agrocorp International Pte. Ltd, Singapore at a cost of Tk213.40 crore. It is estimated that cost of per kg rice will be Tk 42.68.
The supplier was selected through open international tender and each tonne of rice will cost $397. 03 while the previous price of similar rice was $393.19.
