Dhaka witnesses intense winter chills as temp drops

The mild cold wave blowing through many places in Bangladesh will prevail for some more days and spread to other parts of the country, the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) forecast on Tuesday.
As a result, the weather may remain dry with temporary partly cloudy sky over the country. Moderate to thick fog may occur at places over the country during midnight to morning, the BMD report added.
Meanwhile, the intensity of winter has increased in the capital since Tuesday morning, with a sudden drop in daytime temperature.
 The weather office said the temperature will drop a little further and this condition may prevail till January 7.
The highest temperature recorded in Dhaka on Monday was 26 degrees Celsius. On Tuesday, it was 19.6 degrees Celsius – a 6.4-degree drop. The lowest recorded temperature in Dhaka, which was 14.7 degrees Celsius on Monday, was 14.5 degrees Celsius on Tuesday.
Meteorologist Bajlur Rashid said, “The capital witnessed an intense winter chills yesterday due to sudden drop in daytime temperature, aplenty fog and non-visibility of the sun.”
The sky may remain cloudy for a while in Dhaka and neighbouring areas, according to the prediction. It might continue to be dry. Winds at speeds of 5-10 km/h may come from the north or north-west. It could get a little colder during the day.
On Tuesday, the lowest temperature recorded at 8.5 degrees Celsius in Sreemangal.
Besides, the temperature in all regions of the country dropped below 15 degrees Celsius.
The Bangladesh Meteorological Department said West Bengal and the surrounding territories are where the subcontinental high-pressure zone extends.
A seasonal low-pressure area is present over the southern Bay of Bengal.
According to the 24-hour prediction, the weather may continue to be dry with partly overcast skies.
According to BMD report, some regions of the country may see moderate to thick fog from Tuesday midnight till Wednesday morning. There may not be much difference in the nighttime and daytime temperatures across the country.
