Vandalisation of murals of Syed Nazrul, Syed Ashraf protested in Kishoreganj

 The murals of Syed Nazrul Islam, one of Bangladesh’s first interim President and and his son Awami League former General Secretary , Minister late Syed Ashraful Islam have been defaced with black ink and vandalised . This is the second time in year and a half.
 According to the police, some miscreants painted such indelible ink on two murals located in Shaheed Syed Nazrul square( param Chattor) the heart of Kishoreganj town adjacent to Akhabazar Bridge, on Sunday midnight night or early Monday.
 Both murals have indelible ink sprayed on their faces and vandalised garden lights.
 This incident has created a lot of anger in the town.
 Police Super (SP) in Kishoreganj Mohammad Rasel Sheikh PPM (Bar) told the New Nation that, , we are conducting activities to catch the perpetrators of the crime.
On July 30, 2021, the mural of Syed Ashraful Islam was vandalized at the same place. Police arrested a young man in that incident and sent him to jail.
The Municipal authorities took the initiative to install CCTV cameras there. Even though the CCTV camera was installed, it is now said to be useless.
 District Commissioner (DC) Mohammad Abul Kalam Azad, Additional SP (Crime) Nure Alam, Mayor Parvez Mia, Additional SP. ( Circle) Al-Amin Hossain and intelligence agencies officials visited on spot.
When contact to Deputy Commissioner. (DC) Md. Abul Kalam Azad told the New Nation that the incident is believed to have been carried out by anti-independence groups sometime late on Sunday midnight. However, it is not known who caused this incident.
The Police, Intelligence agencies including Administration are working to bring them under the law.
The ruling Awami League formed a human chain in front of Syed Nazrul Islam square (param Chattor) on Monday afternoon. It was addressed District President and Zila Parishad Chairman Adv Zillur Rahman, General Secretary Adve M. A Afzol and Syed Ashfakul Islam Tito.
Syed Nazrul ‘s Cousin Syed Ashfaqul Islam Tito said, ‘Earlier when Syed Ashraf mural was vandalized, the municipal authorities said that CCTV cameras would be installed there. I do not know whether the camera has been installed or not? If the camera is not installed, the municipal authority cannot avoid its responsibility in any way. Those involved should be brought under the law within 48 hours.
