Khandker Mahbub laid to eternal rest

A veteran jurist and former President of the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) Khandker Mahbub Hossain was laid to eternal rest at Azimpur Graveyard in the capital on Monday.
The burial took place after his fifth and last namaz-e-janaza at the Malibagh Chowdhury Para Jame Masjid (Matir Masjid) after Zuhr prayers, said his junior lawyer Masud Rana.
Khandker Mahbub, who was elected President of the Supreme Court Bar Association on four occasions, died at Evercare Hospital while undergoing treatment on Saturday night at the age of 86.
His first janaza was held at Bashundhara residential area mosque and the second one on Khandker Mahbub Hossain Eye Hospital premises at Mirpur,
the third one at Naya Paltan in front of BNP’s central office and the fourth one on the Supreme Court premises on Sunday. BNP leaders and activists, lawyers as well as judges, and court officials paid their last respects to Mahbub after his body was brought to the BNP central office at Naya Paltan and the Supreme Court Bar Association compound on Sunday.
On December 26, Mahbub was admitted to the Evercare Hospital, and he was later diagnosed with pneumonia and with fluid in his lungs. The noted lawyer was put on a ventilator a day later and suffered a heart attack while his kidneys were not functioning.
Mahbub, who was enrolled as a lawyer of the High Court Division in 1967, became Vice-Chairman of the Bangladesh Bar Council later.
He joined the BNP in 2008 and he was also one of the lawyers for BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia. Mahbub contested the 11th parliamentary election in 2018 as a BNP candidate in a Barguna constituency.
