Nat’l Textbook Festival held

On the first day of the New Year, the students were excited to receive new books. Textbook festival was celebrated in primary and secondary level educational institutions in Sylhet like the rest of the country on Sunday. Students are returning home from school smiling with books. Due to the corona epidemic, it was not possible to celebrate the first day of the year in 2021. This time, due to the absence of that obstacle, the government celebrated the festival on January 1 all over the country.
New books were distributed to pre-primary, primary and secondary level students in different educational institutions of Sylhet on Sunday (January 1) morning.
Sylhet Divisional Commissioner D. Muhammad Mosharraf Hossain inaugurated the “Textbook Festival Day” by handing over books to the students of Government Agrogami Girls School And College Sylhet on Sunday. Presided over by Deputy Commissioner of Sylhet Md. Mojibor Rahman, Additional Divisional Commissioner Debojit Singho, Regional Deputy Director of Primary Education Jahangir Kobir Ahmed, Divisional Deputy Director of Primary Education Sylhet Division Jalal Uddin, District Education officer S.M. Abdu Wadud and Headmistress of Government Agrogami Girls School And College Sylhet Momotaz Begum were present marking the programme. Addressing the students, D. Muhammad Mosharraf Hossain said the government has been distributing free textbooks to both primary and secondary students since 2010 to solve the textbook crisis.
BSS from Gaibandha adds: Free textbooks distribution festival was held in all the academic institutions at Primary and Secondary levels including Madrashas of the district Sunday in a befitting manner.
A ceremony on free textbooks distribution among the students organized by district administration and district primary education office held on the premises of Collegiate Govt. Primary School of the town here this morning. Local lawmaker and whip of the Jatiya Sangshad Mahabub Ara Begum Gini addressed the function as the chief guest and president of Bangladesh Awami League, District Unit, Abu Bakar Siddique, mayor of Gaibandha Municipality Matlubour Rahman, Sadar UNO Shariful Alam and district primary education officer Harunur Rashid were present at the event as the special guests while DC Oliur Rahman presided over the ceremony.
Speaking on the occasion, Mahabub Ara Begum Gini said there is no alternative to education to build an enlightened nation and to push forward the country towards desired development and progress.
Bangladesh has set a rare example in the world through distribution of free textbooks among a large number of students of whole country on the first day of new academic year, she also said.
Terming the initiative of free textbook distribution to the students as ‘milestone’, she said the initiative would undoubtedly reduce the dropouts and increase the number of students at primary and secondary level.
Later, whip formally inaugurated the free text books distribution programme in the district through handing over books to the students of the school.
Apart from this, another function on free text books distribution to the students of high schools and madrashas organized by district administration and district education office was also held on the premises of Government Boys’ High School of the town here at 11 am.
