DU bus on wrong side, kills pedestrian

DU Correspondent :
A man died after being run over by a bus carrying Dhaka University (DU) students, which was on the wrong side.
The incident took place at the city’s Bijoy Shoroni on Thursday night.
The deceased has been identified as Al Amin alias Tutul, (24). Tejgaon Thana Police meanwhile arrested the bus driver Bazlur Rahman.
Al Amin was used to work in a private company located in Awlad Hussain Market adjacent to Bijoy Shoroni.
According to the eyewitnesses and DU students, the bus, Khonika, was bound for Gazipur on Thursday afternoon from DU campus. When the bus had reached near Bijoy Shoroni after facing traffic congestion it was moved ahead by wrong side violating traffic rules and it pushed the person.
The driver stopped the bus and some students rushed to the spot and they took the injured Al Amin to hospital. But he died while undergoing treatment in a private hospital.
“A case has been filed by deceased family. The driver of the bus has been arrested in this connection,” Tejgaon Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Shah Alam said.
The driver, Bazlur, drives the BRTC double-decker bus No. 15-6203 Dhaka Metro-B. The hired bus is operated by the name ‘Khonika’ and DU students are brought to Gazipur by this bus.
Inspector Shah Alam later said that the bus driver Bajlur has already been sent to court.
“It was a very tragic and unexpected incident. We gave instructions to students and our drivers as they do not violate traffic rules. But why the driver violated it, we will look into the matter seriously,” DU Proctor AKM Golam Rabbani said.
