Development projects are delayed to increase costs: Momen

Development work is delayed to increase expenditure and it has become a common tradition in our country, Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen said on Thursday.
While visiting the expansion projects of Osmani International Airport in Sylhet, Foreign Minister said that usually the Chinese and Japanese companies do not delay in their projects . They complete their project on time.Project implementation delay is a manifold burden,he added.
Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen said that he is expecting to complete the expansion projects of Osmani International Airport in the next year after motioning the delayed start of the project because of some complications in land procurement.
During the site visit, the Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen was accompanied by Deputy Commissioner of Sylhet Mujibur Rahman, Director of Osmani International Airport Hafiz Ahmad, Project Director Shah Zulfikar Haider, Awami League Central Organizing Secretary Shafiul Alam Chowdhury Nadel, and Acting President of Sylhet District Awami League. The government is implementing Osmani Airport Extension Project (Phase-1) at a cost of Tk 2,309 crore.
Under the project, a new terminal building, cargo village, state-of-the-art ATC tower and other modern facilities will be built, which will increase the passenger handling capacity to two million from the current six lakh.
As per the schedule, the expansion projects of Osmani International Airport in Sylhet was to be completed by December 2022.
