A case has been filed against slain journalist Sharmin Shabnam’s husband Saidul Islam for allegedly killing his wife.
Shabnam’s younger brother Omar Rashid filed a case with Hatirjheel Police Station in the capital on Wednesday, accusing her husband Saidul Islam, who is a former reporter of a private television.
But police could not arrest Saidul Islam as he went into hiding.
Abdur Rashid, Officer-in-Charge of Hatirjheel Police Station, said that police are working to arrest Saidul. When asked, he said, “The autopsy report will be available in next few days. The autopsy report would confirm whether Shabnam committed suicide or she was killed.”
Shabnam Sharmin was found dead at her Maghbazar residence in
Dhaka on Tuesday night.
Police said she may have passed away 4-5 days ago, but they are yet to determine the cause of her death.
A former photojournalist of the Bangladesh Post, Shabnam was working for a news portal, The Report, until her death.
The family and some friends of Shabnam claimed that she was tortured and then forced to kill herself.
