Four Chinese nationals coming from China have been kept in isolation suspecting them to be infected with Covid-19.
They arrived at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) on a flight from China around 3:00pm on Monday.
Dr Shahriar Sajjad, assistant director of the airport’s health department, told the media: “The faces of the four passengers were red. Later, when they underwent antigen test, there report came positive.”
The health department of the airport sent them to Mohakhali DNCC Hospital to be kept in isolation.
According to the updated report of the World Health Organisation (WHO), around 149,674 new patients were detected in China in the last one week (from December 12 to 18). Among them, 337 people died during this time. More people were infected in Japan and South Korea, says the WHO. As many as 1,130 people have been newly infected in neighbouring India.
Dr Shahriar said that the passengers came from China with a negative report after RT-PCR test. However, since their condition looked suspicious so they were tested again and kept in isolation. Another RT-PCR test would help determine their actual state.
Director of the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) Dr Tahmina Shirin said their samples were collected for genome sequencing.
As China gets battered with a new variant of the coronavirus and cases of the same variant have been detected in India, Bangladesh health officials on Sunday advised the public to again take precautions against Covid-19, including getting vaccinated and wearing masks in crowds.
The national advisory committee on Covid-19 has already been alerted about the new variant, BF7, which is a sub-variant of Omicron.
Screening at all air, land and sea ports have been ordered to be increased on Sunday due to the increase in the number of new cases of Covid-19 in several countries. All ports have also been instructed to undergo rapid antigen test and isolate the affected person.
