India take upper hand

India took the upper hand making 314 runs in the first innings against Bangladesh on the second day of the second Test at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in the city’s Mirpur on Friday.
Earlier, Bangladesh scored 227 in their first innings on the first day (Thursday).
Later, Bangladesh were at the stumps at 7 for the loss of none.
Najmul Hossain Shanto was on 5, while Zakir Hasan was on 2 before the two umpires pocketed the bails on the second day.
Bangladesh trailed by 80 runs.
India resumed their first innings with the over-night score of 19 for the loss of none.
Shubman Gill and KL Rahul resumed their first innings with the over-night score of 14 and three runs respectively.
KL Rahul could add just seven runs as left-arm spinner Taijul Islam trapped him leg before wicket when India’s score was 27.
Taijul struck again as Shubman Gill (20) was trapped leg before wicket by the left-arm spinner when the visitors’ total was 38 for the loss of two wickets.
One-down Cheteshwar Pujara was another victim of Taijul Islam as Pujara (24) was caught at the short leg by Mominul Haque when India’s score was 72 for the loss of three wickets.
Virat Kohli (24) was caught behind by wicketkeeper Nurul Hasan off Taskin Ahmed when India’s total was 94 for the loss of four wickets.
Then, Rishabh Pant and Shreyas Iyer salvaged their team from danger adding together 159 runs in the five-wicket stand before Rishabh was caught behind by Nurul Hasan off Mehidy Hasan Miraz when the tourists’ score was 253 for the loss of five wickets.
Rishabh hit a superb 93. His 104-ball innings had five sixes and seven fours.
Fifth-down Axar Patel (4) was caught by Najmul Hossain Shanto off Shakib Al Hasan when the visitors’ total was 264 for the loss of six wickets.
Iyer was trapped leg before wicket by Shakib Al Hasan when India’s score was 271 for the loss of seven wickets.
After Iyer’s dismissal, India batters failed to build any notable partnership. Iyer notched up a fine 87. His 105-ball innings had 10 fours and two sixes.
Then, Shakib and Taijul mopped up the tail-enders of India.
Taijul Islam and Shakib Al Hasan captured four wickets each instead of 74 and 79 runs respectively.
Taskin Ahmed and Mehidy Hasan Miraz took one wicket each for 58 and 61 runs respectively.
