Shahin murder case against MA Awal, now report Jan 25

A Dhaka court yesterday again asked PBI to submit by next January 25, the probe report on further investigation into the case filed against former lawmaker MA Awal and 14 others in connection with the killing of trader Md Shahinuddin in May last year.
Metropolitan Magis-trate Md Tariqul Islam of the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka passed the order after Md Monir Hossain, an Inspector of the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) and also Investigation Officer of the case could not submit the report by Tuesday.
With this, PBI took eight dates to complete further probe into the case.
On May 12 this year, another Dhaka court ordered PBI for further investigation after Aklima Begum, mother of the victim, filed a no-confidence petition, rejecting the probe report submitted in the case.
After a probe for around nine months, Syed Iftekhar Hossain, Investigation Officer and an Inspector of the Detective Branch of police, submitted a charge sheet to the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court of Dhaka on February 14, saying that the trader was killed upon the instruction of MA Awal, former lawmaker from the Laxmipur-1 constituency.
Among the accused, former lawmaker Awal and 12 others are now on bail while two others are now in the jail.
 
The murder was committed on May 16 last year (2021) in front of the victim’s seven-year-old son in broad daylight in the city’s Pallabi area.
