DITF preparations in full swing

Preparations for the 27th Dhaka International Trade Fair (DITF), to begin from the first day of 2023, are in full swing at the Bangabandhu Bangladesh-China Friendship Exhibition Center at Purbachal in the capital.
on Monday morning, workers were seen busy setting up stalls, pavilions and other infrastructure inside the venue for the biggest trade fair in Bangladesh.
Amirul Islam, a carpenter from Badda, said he has been preparing stalls for the fair for the last ten years. This year he is making three stalls for three different owners. He and twenty more workers are working round the clock to prepare the stalls.
He hoped that those stalls will be prepared by December 28.
Samaresh Sharma, a carpenter who is constructing stall for a textile company, said that they are now cutting wood and hardboards as per design. “All workers in his team have been staying at the site for 24 hours to complete the work,” he added.
Site Engineer of a pavilion Imran Gazi said they are making a big pavilion. After the ending of the structure construction his team will start the light related works and will hand over the pavilion to its owner.
Talking to this correspondent, Secretary of Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) Iftikher Ahmed Chowdhury said there were 225 stalls at the DITF last year, but this year the number will be 331.
“We will add a dedicated playing zones for children and trying to improve the environment and communication facilities to make trade fair more successful,” he added.
DITF, jointly organised by the EPB and Ministry of Commerce, is a month-long event, first began on December 1, 1995. Since then, the number of visitors to the fair has grown exponentially. Previously, it was held at Sher-E-Bangla Nagar in the capital.
From 2022, the DITF shifted to its permanent venue to Bangabandhu Bangladesh-China Friendship Exhibition Centre at Purbachal in the capital.
