Martyred Intellectuals’ Day observed in districts

Sylhet District Administration observed the Martyred Intellectuals Day with due solemnity on Wednesday.
A discussion meeting was held at DC Conference room with DC of Sylhet Md Mojibor Rahman in the chair.
Sylhet Divisional Commissioner Dr. Muhammad Mosharraf Hossain attended the meeting as a chief guest.
DIG of Sylhet Range Mofiz Uddin Ahmed PPM, Commissioner of Sylhet Metropolitan Police Nisharul Arif, District Superintendent of Police Mohammad Abdullah Al Mamun, Awami League Metropolitan General Secretary Masuk Uddin Ahmad and General Secretary Professor Zakir Hossain also attend the meeting were special guest.
Deputy Director of Local Government Department. Mamunur Rashid, Additional District Magistrate Imrul Hasan, Additional Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Mubarak Hossain, Additional Deputy Commissioner Tausif Ahmad, Additional Deputy Commissioner ASM Kashem, Former District Commander of Freedom Fighters Congress Subrata Chakraborty Jewel, Sylhet District Press Club President Al Azad, Deputy Information Office Director Md. Salauddin, District Child Affairs Officer Saidur Rahman Bhuya, President of Sylhet Online Press Club Muhit Chowdhury and others also attended here.
Assistant Commissioner Md. Mahbubul Islam and Assistant Commissioner Sadia binte moderated the discussion meeting. In addition, officials and employees of various government and private departments of Sylhet district, students of schools and colleges and journalists were also present in the metting.
Earlier on the occasion of Martyr Intellectuals Day wreath was laid by district administration at Shahid Intellectuals Graveyard, Sylhet (next to Central Shahid Minar) at 9 am.
Another report says: Sylhet Metropolitan Union of Journalists’ (SMUJ) observed the Martyred Intellectuals Day with due solemnity on Wednesday.
On this occasion a discussion meeting and Doa Mahfil was organized at the temporary office of Dargah Mohalla in the city.
Sylhet Metropolitan Journalist Union President Muhammad Amjad Hossain Presided over and General Secretary Khaled Ahmed conducted the meeting. Vice President of the organization Abdul Quader Tapadar, members Abdur Razzak, Sirajul Islam, Shahjahan Salim Bulbul, Kabir Ahmad, SA Shafi, Shabbir Ahmad and Abidur Rahman took part in the discussion.
Aftab Uddin, Nurul Islam, Enamul Islam, Shahnewaz Talukder, Karim Mia, Mohammad Isha Talukder, Hafizul Haque and others were present in the discussion and prayer meeting. After the discussion, the president of the organization, Muhammad Amjad Hossain, led the prayers.
Sr. Staff Reporter, Kishoreganj reports : The nation on Wednesday observed the Martyred Intellectuals Day paying glowing tributes to the Intellectuals who were brutally killed by the Pakistani occupation forces and their local collaborators at the fag -end of the country’s Liberation War in 1971 and
in Kishoreganj in a befitting manner on Wednesday.

A discussion meeting was held at local Collectorate Conference room on Wednesday morning. Deputy Commissioner (DC) in Kishoreganj Md. Abul Kalam Azad presided over the discussion.
It was addressed among others by Police Super (SP) Mohammad Rasel Sheikh PPM (Bar) as special guest. District Awami League general secretary advocate M. A Afzol, , Civil Surgeon ( CS) dr. Saiful Islam, ADC ( Develop.& Human resource) Kazi Mohua, Ganatantree Party presidium member Advocate Bhupendra Bhowmick Dholon, Mohila Awami League district secretary Bilkis Begum and Krishak League district general secretary Anowar Hossain Bachu.

Netrakona Correspondent says: The Martyred Intellectuals Day was observed in the district Wednesday in a befitting manner.
People from all walks of life observed the day paying glowing tributes to the memories of the country’s heroic sons and daughters who were brutally killed by the then Pakistani occupation forces and their collaborators at the fag-end of the war of liberation in 1971.
 Netrakona District Administration and different socio-cultural and political organizations, NGOs, district Muktizoddha Sangsad and educational institutions chalked out various programs highlighting the significance of the day.
 The day’s programme was formally started in the morning with placing of floral wreaths at the martyred freedom fighters memorial monument at Netrakona district collectorate office premises by Deputy Commissioner (DC) Netrakona Anjana Khan Mojlish.
 Then, public representatives, political leaders, district level officers, freedom fighters, civil society members, students and teachers placed wreaths at the monument.
 As part of the programmes, District Administration organized a discussion on “The significance of the Martyred Intellectuals Day” at local public hall here.
Chaired by the DC Anjana Khan Mojlish, the meeting was addressed, among others, by Chairman of Netrakona zilla parishad Asit Kumar Sarkar Sazal, police super of Netrakona Mohammad Foyaz Ahmed, mayor Of Netrakona municipality Nazrul Islam Khan, president of Awami League (AL) Netrakona district unit Advocate Amirul Islam and its general secretary Advocate Shamsur Rahman Liton.
Apart from these, special prayers were offered at all the mosques including Netrakona Central Jam-E-Mosque, temples , churches and other placed of worships across the country seeking divine blessings for peace and salvation of the departed souls of the martyred intellectuals.
Jamalpur Correspondent reports: A discussion meeting on the significance of the Liberation War was held on Martyrs Intellectual Day at Melandah upazila under the Jamalpur district. It Organized by Reporters Unity.
On this occasion, Jahangir Alam Babu, the guerilla fighter who took the oath of the first flag in Melandha in 1971, spoke as the chief guest at the discussion meeting held at the office of Reporters Unity at 4 p.m.

 In the meeting, martyred intellectuals demanded the recognition of martyred freedom fighters.
At the end of the event, the journalists of Melandaha Reporters Unity were given special clothes with the logo of Unity in recognition of their work skills.

On the occasion floral wreath were given to the portrait of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at the Upazila Parishad square.

BSS from Khulna adds: People of all walks of life here Wednesday observed the ‘Martyred Intellectuals Day’ paying rich tributes to the country’s golden sons and daughters who were killed at the fag end of the War of Liberation in 1971 with a pledge to build the country following their ideals.
The country commemorated the brutal killings day before the country achieved the victory on December 16 after a bloody nine-month war against the Pakistani occupation forces.
Leaders and activists of different political and socio-cultural organizations, government, non-government organizations and educational institutions placed wreaths at the Gallamary Martyred Memorial here at early hours of Wednesday.
The day’s programme began with paying tributes by Khulna Muktijoddha Sangsad to the Gallamary Martyred Memorial at 12 past one minute.
Awami League, Mayor of Khulna City Corporation (KCC), BNP, Jatiya Party (Ershad), JSD, Vice-Chancellors of Khulna University (KU), Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET), Khulna District Council, Khulna Divisional Commissioner, Khulna Press Club, Khulna Union of Journalists (KUJ), among others, also paid homage to the great sons of the country.
Marking the Day, Khulna district administration organized a discussion at the Deputy Commissioner’s conference room with DC Khondokar Yasir Arefin in the chair.
Mayor of Khulna City Corporation (KCC) Talukder Abdul Khaleque addressed the meeting as chief guest while Superintendent of Police Md Mahbub Hasan, Freedom Fighters Professor Alamgir Kabir and Sarder Mahububur Rahman, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Khulna Metropolitan Police Sonali Sen, addressed as special guests.
