BERC to hold public hearing aims to increase power price in retail

Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) is going to arrange a two days long public hearing programme aiming at price hike of electricity on retail level on January 8-9 next year.
The hearing will be taken place in BIAM foundation auditorium. Concern persons, organizations are being requested to send their opinion and enlist their name within
January 01.
According to press release on December 12 signed by BREC Secretary Khalilur Rahman said, because of bulk electricity price hiked on November 21, the six state-owned distribution companies were sent a proposal to readjust price in retail level. So, we call for a public hearing at retail level to find rational consensus.
In the proposals, power distribution companies depicted their revenue deficit due to the bulk price hike and asked the regulatory body to adjust price accordingly so that they can avoid loss.
Meanwhile, on November 21, BERC hiked the bulk electricity price by 19.92 per cent, the ten times hike since 2009 – a 161 per cent increase in 13 years, while retail price has been increased by 90 per cent during the same period.
