‘Cos giving expired medical reports to expats for Malaysia must be held’

Staff Reporter :
Minister for Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Imran Ahmad said that the government will take actions against those behind conducting medical tests long ago before going to Malaysia for taking money only.
“Those companies must be held accountable who are behind taking money for conducting medical tests for going to Malaysia long before their flights. As a result, their date of the medical reports had been expired before going there. Those people now need to spend extra money for further medical tests,” the Minister said while talking with journalists in a programme in a hotel in the capital on Tuesday.
The International Organisation for Migration (IOM) organised the programme, to mark the completion of the EU-funded ‘Bangladesh: Sustainable Reintegration and Improved Migration Governance (Prottasha)’ project.
At the event as Chief Guest, Imran Ahmad, said, “The Government is committed to ensuring migration is safe and dignified, and that it improves the wellbeing of migrants and their families. Prottasha has played a vital role in establishing a foundation to build future reintegration programmes in Bangladesh on.”
Joining the event, Dr. Ahmed Munirus Saleheen, Secretary, Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment, said, “The Government of Bangladesh has recognised the significant contribution of migrant workers and international migration in the development of the country. We have taken innumerable steps to improve the management and promotion of safe and regular migration.”
He said, “Prottahsa stands out as an exemplary initiative which has supported the ministry across the areas of sustainable reintegration, improved migration governance and safe migration in Bangladesh.”
Dr. Bernd Spanier, Chargé d’Affaires at the Delegation of the European Union to Bangladesh, said, “The lessons learnt from Prottasha are a solid basis to build on and the good practices established will help shape future initiatives in this area. We as European Union stand ready to support you in this endeavour.”
Abdusattor Esoev, Chief of Mission, IOM Bangladesh, reflected, “Considering today’s unprecedented levels of human mobility, and the challenges presented by the Covid-19 global pandemic, situations of conflict around the world, and the current global economic crisis, we need a concerted effort to improve migration management at national and global levels.”
He said, “Prottasha has contributed to such efforts by supporting the Government of Bangladesh and other key migration actors to think holistically about migration management issues.”
Prof. Shahidul Haque, Senior Policy Advisor, IOM Bangladesh, and senior government officials from the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment; Ministry of Foreign Affairs; Ministry of Home Affairs; and Bureau of Manpower, Employment and Training, and other offices were also took part in the event.
The event featured a panel discussion and photo exhibition and cultural programmes.
