No bus parking outside terminals: DSCC Mayor

Staff Reporter :
Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh said no counter of buses will be allowed outside of terminals from 1 April within the city.
Taposh said this while addressing the 25th meeting of the bus route rationalisation committee at Nagar Bhaban in the capital on Tuesday (December 13).
He said, we generally see a counter in Jigatala, a counter in Kalabagan, another counter in Khilgaon. The counter is opened wherever they want. It creates traffic jam. So we are getting strict on this. We think that through this, not only passenger service, but public transport management will be more orderly and we can bring it under proper management.
He said two more new routes are going to launch under the bus route rationalisation in Dhaka city. The two new routes (24th and 25th) are Ghatarchar to Abdullapur via Mirpur-10 and Kalshi and Ghatarchar to Abdullapur via Mohakhali.
As a pre-announced route, route number 23 will start its journey with 100 new buses from January 31, he added.
Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Mayor Atiqul Islam, Dhaka Transport Coordination Authority Executive Director Sabiha Parveen, Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation Chairman Md. Tajul Islam, Acting Chief Executive Officer and Secretary of DSCC Akramuzzaman, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (Traffic) Additional Police Commissioner Md. Munibur Rahman, Public Transport expert SM Saleh Uddin and President of Dhaka Road Transport Owners Association Ajmal Uddin Ahmed and many others were present in the event.
