Some 11 landless families evicted by the administration in Adhunagar, Lohagara, Chittagong are living under the open sky. Besides, hundreds of landless families are in fear of eviction. The victims said that they have been living on government Khas land in Moulvi Para of Ward No. 4 of Adhunagar and South Chakfirani area of Ward No. Barahatia for about twenty years.
It is known that on Wednesday, the Upazila Administration conducted an operation and recovered three acres of Khas land of hill areas. At that time, the land and homeless Razia Soltana Raju, Md. Kamal, Mohiuddin, Nur Aisha, Md. Sohail, Juni Akhtar, Sajeda Begum Saju, Minu Akhtar, Morzina Akhtar, Md. 11 landless families including Harun and Nurul Kabir were evicted. Besides, chicken and cow farms of a local UP member were evicted.
The victims said that they bought the possession of the private land from one Fauzul Quader through the mediation of local UP member Faridul Alam for a long time. They have been living there for 15/20 years by building a house. The upazila administration conducted the eviction operation on Wednesday without prior announcement. Due to the sudden eviction operation, no goods in the residence could be taken out. They have lost their last hard-earned possessions and are disoriented. Elderly and child members of the family are suffering from homelessness. Loans have been taken from various banks and NGO organizations for purchase of land and construction of houses. Many families are still unable to complete their loan repayments. They claim that 11 evicted families are landless. They sought the intervention of higher authorities to take necessary measures for their shelter.
Sajeda Begum, the abandoned husband who was evicted, said that she bought possession of the 10th century land in exchange for 60 thousand rupees. There he built a tin house with a loan. With 2 children, she worked as a seamstress and ran the family. Losing the last shelter, he burst into tears. He is worried about where to take shelter with his children, how to spend his days.
On the surface, it can be seen that the tin and half-baked houses of 11 families have been demolished in that area. Sensing the presence of the journalist, the affected family members gathered at one place. At this time, many people talk about their sorrows after losing their last possessions in a tearful voice. Only new settlements were vacated in the campaign. And those who have been living for a long time have been asked to move their homes. They are not allowed to stay in government special places. If they are landless, apply. The government is rehabilitating the real landless.
