No one keeps tracks of Mirana Zaman and Jahanara Ahmed

One is Mirana Zaman and another
is Jahanara Ahmed. Mirana Zaman is 86 years old, while Jahanara Ahmed is 85 years old now. Physical conditions of these two veteran actresses are not well now. Both are feeling lamented at the absolute ignorance of the country’s entertainment arena towards them.
Jahanara Ahmed informed that few days ago, an operation was held on her eyes. Last year, she got hurt in her waist. For this reason, she has been passing times at her residence in the capital’s Central Road area now.
On the other hand, Mirana Zaman told this correspondent that few days ago, she became very sick. Now she is feeling a little bit better. But that is not stable condition. This veteran actress said that now she is not acting for television and Betar. She said, “In fact, at this age my physical condition does not permit me to work. So, I am passing most of the times at home with my family. Members of my family are taking care of me but all with whom I used to work in our entertainment industry have forgotten me. Although I don’t have any complaint for that because now I have understood that working relationships last as long as one is regular at work as nothing more nothing less. But I pray for all as everybody remains well. I request all to pray for me as gets the scope.”
This noted actress also said, “It is really my misfortune that I did not have any national award. Sometimes, I feel very sorry for this. However, I have earned so many loves from my fans and viewers, which is nothing less compared to any award. I pray for all who are now working. I hope they will pray for me too.”
Meanwhile, legendary actress Jahanara Ahmed got Ekushe Padak in 2016. She said, “I had injuries on my back last year. Since then it became hard for me to move. On the other hand, I recently had eye surgery. Overall, my health is not in a good condition. Now, people, who are working in the field of entertainment, have no time to keep track of me. I do not mind that but sometimes I get upset about the fact. However, I pray for all
as they remain their own way.”
Jahanara Ahmed lastly wrote a drama serial titled ‘Locket’ for BTV. The veteran actress got the opportunity to write 42 episodes of the serial. Then she became seriously ill and couldn’t continue writing. Then BTV authority stopped to air the serial till 42nd episode.
Mirana Zaman started her career in Betar as a voice artiste in 1962. She started acting in Naila Samad written a play on Betar. In the meantime, she also acted in Nilima Ibrahim and Nomita Anwar’s written dramas for Betar. In television, she first acted in Mustafa Monwar directed a drama. ‘Ghorowa’ was Mirana Zaman starrer her first serial on television. In the silver screen, she made her film debut with Rahman in movie titled ‘Jaha Baje Shehnai.’ She played role of late noted actor Sirajul Islam’s sister in the movie. But she got huge appreciation for playing the role of mother in E R Khan directed movie titled ‘Sontan,’ which was released in 1970. Later, she acted in many movies. Once she also got popularity as ‘Shaira Bu’ in folk song based Betar’s programme.
Mirana Jaman last acted in three movies. These were: late Mohammad Hannan’s ‘Shikhondi Kotha,’ Nasir Uddin Yousuff Bachchu’s ‘Guerilla’ and Abu Sayeed’s ‘Opekkha.’
On the other hand, Jahanara Ahmed first acted in Betar in 1962. Since 1965 she has been acting regularly. Before launching Bangladesh Television (BTV), she acted in serials ‘Drishtipat,’ ‘Ghorowa’
and ‘Songshoptak.’
After independence of Bangladesh, Jahanara Ahmed starrer mentionable drama serials were ‘Sokal Sondhya,’ ‘Shuktara,’ ‘Bela Obela,’ ‘Apon Jon’ and ‘Danob.’ This veteran actress also mentioned name of a drama, which was late Atiqul Haque Chowdhury’s ‘Amader Sontanera.’ Noted actors Ariful Haque, Asaduzzaman Noor, Jahanara Ahmed, among others, also acted
in various roles.
As a heroine, Jahanara Ahmed also acted
in a movie titled ‘Dui Digonto,’ directed by Obaidul Haque. Later, she also acted in movies ‘Porosh Pathor,’ ‘Keyamot Theke Keyamot,’ ‘Rajmistri,’ ‘Chakor,’ ‘Prithibi
Aamare Chaina,’ among others.
