Photography exhibition: ‘Resilience,’ stories of women inspiring change at Drik Gallery

The Embassy of the Kingdom
of the Netherlands in partnership with Drik Picture Library
presents ‘Resilience’ – stories of women inspiring change. This special exhibition is showcasing a selection of stories, awarded in the World Press Photo Contests from 2000 to 2021 that highlight the resilience and challenges of women, girls and communities around the world.
The exhibition is being held at Drik Gallery, Dhaka from November 25 and will continue till December 10, said a press release. At an opening ceremony of the exhibition was held at Drikpath Bhaban earlier on Friday evening, Anne van Leeuwen, Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Bangladesh, Irene Khan, Special Rapporteur on the promotion and protection of the right to freedom of opinion and expression, United Nations, and Shahidul Alam, Managing Director, Drik and ex-jury board chair for the World Press Photo contest were present and reflected on the context of its Dhaka tour. The exhibition conveys the commitment of the Netherlands to women’s rights and gender equality. Multiple voices through 9 series and 8 single photographs, documented by 17 photographers of 13 different nationalities of 15 countries, offer insights into issues including sexism, gender-based violence, sexual and reproductive rights, and access to equal empowerment opportunities.
Photographs by Anna Boyiazis, Forough Alaei, Finbarr O’Reilly, Maika Elan, Catalina Martin-Chico, Pablo Tosco, Olivia Harris, Terrell Groggins, Jonathan Bachman, Heba Khamis, Daniel Berehulak, Robin Hammond, Diana Markosian, Jan Grarup, Magnus Wennman and Fulvio Bugani are on display in the exhibition.
