DMP’s Counter-Terrorism and Transnational Crime Unit (CTTC) has arrested one militant in connection with the snatching of a militant by spraying something at the face of police on the court premises in Dhaka.
The accused has been identified as Mehdi Hasan Ami alias Rafi (24).
Deputy Police Commissioner of Media and Public Relations Department of DMP Faroq Hossain confirmed this information to the media on Wednesday.
According to the DMP officials, Mehedi Hasan, a member of the outlawed organization Ansar Al Islam’s military wing, directly participated in the snatching away of militants and he also took part in blogger Nazimuddin Samad killing.
Earlier on Sunday, two members of the banned militant outfit Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB), sentenced to death in publisher Faisal Arefin Dipan murder case, were snatched away from police custody by their cohorts at Dhaka Chief Judicial Magistrate Court compound.
The escaped convicts are Abu Siddiq Sohel from Aditmari upazila of Lalmonirhat and Moynul Hasan Shamim from Chhatak upazila in Sunamganj.
After the incident, Dhaka Metropolitan DB Police Chief Harun-Or-Rashid told the media that four people riding on two motorcycles went to the court area and snatched away the two death-row convicts after spraying something on the face of policemen.
Later, a case was filed against 20 people with Kotwali Police Station in capital Dhaka in this connection.
Earlier, three more committees have been formed to investigate the incident. Among them, Police Headquarters and Dhaka Metropolitan Police formed two and the home ministry formed one to probe the Sunday’s incident.
