Bangladesh Poultry Association (BPA) on Tuesday accused a certain quarter of doing conspiracy to import eggs for laundering money only.
“The country has a demand for 4.5 crore pieces of eggs while it produces about five crore. Yet, a certain dishonest circle is trying to import eggs from abroad only for laundering money,” Md. Suman Hawladar, President of BPA told in a press briefing at Dhaka Reporters Unity, in the capital.
The Association urged the government not to allow the circle to import eggs for the sake of poultry sector.
“The poultry farms are struggling for survival. Ignoring this situation a dishonest circle has submitted applications to the
government seeking permission of importing eggs. It’s a conspiracy,” Md Suman Hawladar said.
The BPA President said that the farmers failed to sell their eggs and chickens due to less demands in markets.
Meanwhile, a dishonest and vicious syndicate is trying to spread propagandas that there are no sufficient supplies of eggs and chickens in the market.
As such, importing of those items are necessary.
He urged the Prime Minister to interfere in this regard for the sake of protecting the marginal poultry farmers.
Md. Suman Hawladar said several corporate companies are plundering thousand of crores of taka from the poultry farmers in the name of contacted farmers using stamps and bank checks.
The BPA also upheld its seven point demands from the press briefing to the government to favour the marginal poultry farmers.
The demands are included to save the poultry sector from the dishonest circle, do not permit importing eggs, to increase subsidies in poultry feeds for reduction of its price.
It demanded to design poultry policy and to form a poultry board and fixed poultry items prices as per the costing of production.
To ensure registrations for all poultry farmers, to ensure bank loans in flexible conditions for all poultry farmers and to give incentives to those farmers who has been affected by losses in business.
