Family members of the slain publisher Faysal Arefin Dipan were stunned and terrified at the escaping incident of convicted killers from police custody in broad daylight on Sunday.
“I am shocked. How could such incident take place from the court premises when the convicts were in police custody? The incident does not match. It is a terrified matter,” Dr Razia Rahman Joli, wife of Faysal said.
“It is not a matter of fear for me only; rather it is also a dreadful incident for the entire country. These militants can kill me and you as well. They can kill anybody,” she continued.
Dipan’s father, also a retired Dhaka University Professor Abul Kashem Fazlul Haque, said, “It is unthinkable. It is terrible. A red alert was issued to arrest the two militants. Let’s see what happens.”
The two militants who escaped from the court premises in the capital were Md Abu Siddique Sohel alias Sakib alias Sajid alias Shahab and Moinul Hasan Shamim alias Samir alias Sifat alias Imran.
Earlier, Dipan, who was also a Jagriti Prokashony Publisher, was hacked to death by members of banned militant outfit Ansar Al Islam, in his office on the second floor of Aziz Supermarket at Shahbagh in the capital on October 31, 2015.
Later on February 10 last year, a Dhaka tribunal sentenced eight members including these two militants of banned outfit Ansar al-Islam for the killing of Dipan
Following the escaping incident, the government issued a red alert to arrest them with a bounty of Tk20 lakh.
