Cold-related diseases hit hard in Ishwardi

For the past few years, the severity of winter is increasing in Ishwardi. As the winter progresses, the number of cold-related diseases increases. People suffering from cold-related diseases and flocking to Iswardi Upazila Health Complex. Most of them are children and old people. There are also people of different ages, but the number is less. The health complex used to receive about four hundred patients daily, but now it has increased by about 25 percent.
Apart from Ishwardi Upazila Health Complex, people suffering from cold-related diseases are flocking to Union Health Center and private hospitals and doctor’s chambers for treatment. A huge crowd has been seen outside the Iswardi Upazila Health Complex for almost a week.
On the surface, people of different ages have come to the hospital suffering from cough, asthma, fever, allergies and pneumonia due to cold-related diarrhea and respiratory infections. Talking to the mothers of several children in the children’s department of the hospital, there were reports of colds.
 Nazneen Akhtar of Statistics Department of Health Complex said that 3,184 patients received medical care in the outpatient department of Ishwardi Upazila Health Complex in one week. Among them, 494 (0-4 years) were children and 706 were patients above fifty. 54 patients were admitted to the hospital due to pneumonia and diarrhoea. Also, hundreds of patients seek medical care in the emergency department every day.
Dr. Abdul Baten, pediatrician of family planning department, said that due to high dust in the air during this time, many people suffer from allergies, breathing difficulties, cough, pneumonia, bronchitis. Awareness is the only way to get rid of the disease. Children and the elderly need to be extra careful during winter. Children should consult a doctor immediately if they get a cold.
