Fire burns properties worth Tk 7cr in Sylhet in 9 months

In the last 9 months of 2022, 671 fire incidents have occurred in Sylhet. As a result, the fire caused a loss of Tk 6 crore 99 lakh 9 thousand taka. However, due to the activities of Sylhet Fire Service, assets worth Tk 51 crore 77 lakh 19 thousand have been saved from the fire. In this one year there were 333 accidents, 966 people were injured. 88 people were killed. In 52 accidents there was active participation of fire service diving teams. 48 people were injured. 52 people were killed. Fire Service and Civil Defense – Sylhet’s last 9 months statistics show damage in these districts.
Additional Director of Fire Service and Civil Defense Divisional Office Md. Shafiqul Islam said that 913 fire incidents occurred in Fire Service and Civil Defense Sylhet Division in 2021. In the last one year, the estimated loss has been 7 crore 98 lakh 7 thousand 625 taka.
Apart from this, assets worth Tk 49 crore 97 lakh 72 thousand have been saved from the fire by the action of Sylhet fire service. There were 65 accidents. 21 people were injured and 12 people were killed.
Deputy Director of Fire Service and Civil Defense Sylhet Division, Sylhet Md. Moniruzzaman said, ‘Fire Service Week is celebrated every year with the aim of increasing public involvement in fire service and civil defense activities along with increasing awareness among people to strengthen fire safety. By increasing public participation, we want to take a step forward towards safer living systems by making people more aware. ‘
He also said that by organizing drills and public relations, publishing pamphlets, mechanical processions, distribution of pamphlets including leaflets and posters, and visiting various garment factories and other industrial establishments, the concerned are being made aware. The fire service does not only deal with fire incidents. The fire service is now doing everything from people from drains, rescuing bodies hanging from electric poles, to inspecting high-rise buildings. The organization that responds to people’s calls is the fire service.
Fire Service and Civil Defense Week observed
The Fire Service and Civil Defense Week was inaugurated in Sylhet on Tuesday.
Sylhet Divisional Commissioner Dr. Muhammad Mosharraf Hossain inaugurated Fire Service and Civil Defense Week at the Divisional Office of Fire Service and Civil Defense in Alampur in the city.
At this time, a smart team of fire service and civil defense presented him with a guard of honour.
At this time, the guests visited the equipment exhibition in front of the office on the occasion of Fire Service and Civil Defense Week. Later participated in the discussion meeting organized in the hall room of fire service and civil defense office.
Deputy Commissioner of Sylhet Md. Mojibor Rahman presided over and Sylhet Fire Service and Civil Defense Warehouse Inspector Atiqur Rahman conducted the meeting.

In the speech of the chief guest at the opening ceremony, Sylhet Divisional Commissioner Dr. Mosharraf Hossain said, fire service and civil defense are working with reputation in the country and abroad. Fire service and civil defense always stand by people’s side to deal with disasters.
Since Sylhet is an earthquake prone area, various modern equipments have been added here. Fire service and civil defense are training people in various natural and man-made disasters. Through this week more trained volunteers and people will be made aware. He said that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina takes fire service and civil defense department very seriously.
