People wait behind OMS trucks from dawn to dusk

The prices of daily essentials are skyrocketing in the country making low and middle income groups of people more vulnerable to maintain their livelihood.
The government has operated open market sale popularly known as OMS to help the poor people. But the reality is that the poor people could not get products after waiting dawn to dusk around the OMS trucks.
As a result, the miseries of the poor people are getting worse day by day.
Amzad Ali is living in capital with his four members. He is a cleaner by profession earning Tk 10,000- 12,000 as gross salary.
Amazad Ali came to the capital’s Paribagh area’s in front of Motaleb Plaza after hearing that OMS trucks will be there. He went there very early to secure his position first in the line. He became astonished after seeing 27 people already there.
Cleaner Amzad Ali got another shock after knowing that last few days OMS truck was not coming in that area. He said we came here for getting cheap rate products. But OMS truck was not coming here for last few days.
With a little income it is very hard to maintain a four member family’s expenditure, he added.
He said the daily essentials price in the market is too high. It is impossible to buy. OMS is last hope for poor people but they are also irregular to provide.
Not only Paribagh area, the same scenario was seen at Kathalbagar slope area. About 100-150 people were waiting for OMS truck. Soheli Begum is one of them who also waiting from dawn for OMS truck with uncertainty as it will come or not.
During talking with The New Nation she said I have been coming here for four days. But there is no OMS truck. We have been waiting from dawn to dusk for products.
She said there are a lot of people who would be in troubles if they failed to get products from OMS truck at cheap rate.
It is to be mentioned that, low and middle income group of people get five kilogram rice with Tk 150 (per kg Tk30) and five kilogram Atta with Tk 90 (per kg Tk 18). Besides, in the market per kilogram coarse rice is being sold at Tk 56-60.
