BD to sign MoU with Singapore

Bangladesh is likely to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with a Singapore company soon for installation of a 400MW solar power plant at Matarbari in Cox’s Bazar.
Bangladesh is working to ensure for a sustainable power and energy sector and the government wants to utilize Singapore’s experience in the power and energy sector.
State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid said this while talking to reporters after a meeting with Singapore’s Transport and Trade Relations Minister S Iswaran in the secretariat on Wednesday.
“The government has a positive attitude towards the proposal of a Singaporean company for setting up a 400MW solar power plant in Matarbari and a MoU
may be signed soon in this regard,” he said. The State Minister said that Bangladesh could work jointly on land-based LNG terminal, automation and IT sector, smooth supply of petroleum products, human resource development, solar power and hydro power.
If there is a framework agreement for cooperation in the power and energy sector, it can be taken forward quickly, Nasrul Hamid observed.
Various issues including status of power and energy sector and areas of investment were also discussed during the meeting.
The Singaporean Minister S Iswaran said that his visit is to strengthen the existing relationship between the two brotherly countries.
Good results only after increasing investment activities under infrastructure trusts development, the Singaporean Minister said adding that Singapore’s experience in airport solar power or floating solar power or power management can be exchanged.
Apart from this, they also discussed regarding the present global situation including the deployment of clean energy in the energy sector, investment, technical cooperation and fundraising.
