BNP, Ganatantra Mancha unite in anti-government campaign

Staff Reporter :
Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and Gonotantra Manch agreed to form a large political unity against the current government. Both the political parties reached a consensus in simultaneous united movement to topple the awami administration.
As part of the dialogue programme, BNP leaders discussed with the leaders of Gonotantra Manch regarding the ongoing anti-government movement held at BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s political office in Gulshan on Tuesday.
“We will form the proposed national government with all the political parties that are against the current dictatorial government after holding a free, fair, acceptable and participatory election with the aim of returning the ownership of the country to the people. We will work on repairing the state after forming the national government. We have discussed with 22 political parties regarding the issue and today we discussed with the leaders of Gonotantra Manch,” said BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir to the reporters after the meeting.
Even before this, BNP discussed with every political party of the Gonotantra Manch separately, he said.
In the second round discussion, both the parties agreed on a few issues, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said, adding that they have started working to create national unity against the incumbent unelected government.
“People of the country are passing very bad days as prices of essentials beyond their purchasing capacity. So, BNP has started working to create national unity against this unelected government and build a simultaneous movement through mass uprising. At the same, most of the political parties, those staging against the present government, agreed on various issues including the repair of the state. We are hopeful that we will be able to finalize the whole matter holding more discussion in details. We can move towards that goal and now we will continue the movement simultaneously,” the BNP Secretary General said.
He further said that there has already been observed an interest and initiative among the country’s people against incumbent unelected government to topple the government through the movement.
A Liaison Committee will be formed soon to expedite matters, he said adding that the outline of the party programme and movement will be determined by this committee.
“We believe that we will be able to oust this government through active participation by creating greater national unity,” Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said.
Mahmudur Rahman Manna of Nagarik Oikya said that their meeting was fruitful and agreed to launch simultaneous united movement with BNP to oust the Awami League-led 14 party government.
