People speculate a kind of panic centring BNP rally Dec 10

Al Mamun Harun Ur Rashid :
People from all walks of life across the country have been speculating a sense of panic as to what is going to be happened in the BNP’s final grand rally in the capital on December 10.
From the previous experiences of obstructions, BNP said that the ruling party Awami League (AL) would engage its full force to foil or undermine its final rally to be held in the heartland of the country.
So far, BNP during its ongoing rallies has been sending messages to the government to step down and to hand over power to a caretaker government to hold elections under a new Election Commission.
In addition, BNP’s divisional rallies are meant for whipping up their party leaders and workers at the grassroots level to prepare them for the upcoming movements to restore democracy and right to vote.
On the other hand, the ruling Awami League has been closely observing all the rallies of BNP and has started showing its strength and popularity by holding rallies in different parts of the country including the capital recently.
Regarding the BNP rallies, AL General Secretary Obaidul Quader recently said that ‘BNP had been getting mercy now, but it would not be spared in December.’
Such a message from the ruling party spokesman creates a sense of concerns among the common people who are talking about what was going to happen in December.
Meanwhile, Dhaka District Awami League has announced a grand rally at Mirza Golam Hafiz Collage ground in Savar, the entry point of Dhaka, where party workers from Savar,
Ashulia and Dhamrai would gather. The ruling party and its associated bodies would remain in the localities and streets in Dhaka to check, what they say, BNP’s anarchy.
Dhaka Mahanagar (North) AL General Secretary SM Mannan Kochi said, “We will not let anybody to damage people’s lives and properties through terror acts.”
AL said that their leaders and workers would remain alert when BNP would hold rally in the capital to check any kind of anarchic situation created by BNP in the name of government’s resignation.
Political leaders and different stakeholders said that Awami League would deploy its all efforts to resist BNP leaders and workers to join the Dhaka rally, while BNP would exert its endeavors to make the rally successful.
This display of power between the ruling party and the opposition would virtually sever the capital from the rest of the country and it has created a sense of panic among people, they said.
Meanwhile, BNP has already finished six out of 10 rallies, and these congregations were held almost peacefully and the party is expecting to conclude the rest of the programmes peacefully.
BNP insiders said that they were not holding rallies to engage in any sort of confrontation with the ruling party, but to convey their demands for the resignation of the government and handing over power to a caretaker government.
BNP during its previous six grand rallies reiterated that it would not allow the government to hold election under partisan government.
“The December 10 is not a programme meant for toppling the government. We have not yet begun the movement for overthrowing the government,” BNP Standing Committee Member Dr Khandkar Mosharraf Hossain told The New Nation on Monday.
“We want to hold each rally peacefully. Awami League has already been creating obstructions in all our rallies. But we would carry on our movement,” he added.
BNP said that the party had been expecting the participation of innumerable leaders and workers from all districts, defying all obstacles.
Meanwhile, BNP is going to hold its seventh rally in Sylhet on November 19, followed by Cumilla rally on November 26 and Rajshahi on December 3.
