“If Karnaphuli captured, country’s economy will collapse”

Chairman of the National River Commission Manjur Ahmed Chowdhury said that Karnaphuli is the most important River for the country’s economy. If the Karnaphuli River is captured, the economy of Bangladesh will be destroyed.
So it is not right to compare it with other rivers. He said these things to reporters after visiting the Karnaphuli River recently. He said that Karnaphuli cannot be compared with other rivers of Bangladesh. Another river is not the same as Karnaphuli. Now there are fish markets and thousands of illegal establishments beside Karnaphuli River
In response to reporters’ questions about dredging the river on one side and filling the river with silt on the other, he said, “I cannot accept your words.” Dredging is done to protect the river. Not to fill the river. Moreover, Karnaphuli is the most important river in Bangladesh.
