Seven shops gutted in Mongla Port town

About seven shops and dwelling houses were gutted when a devastating fire broke out at Mongla bus stand within Mongla Port town under Mongla Upazila in Bagerhat district on Monday afternoon, according to a report received here. It is learnt from the shop-keepers that on the day at about 3-30 pm the fire originated from an electricity short circuit took place in a shop of the bus stand spread to the adjacent shops and within moment it went out of the control.
By this time being informed of the matter 4 fire service units of Mongla EPZ rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control after a long fighting for one hour.
But in spite of that all the seven shops including dwelling houses along with their all belongings were burnt to ashes. According to a primary assessment, the loss of fire is estimated to more than Tk.25 lakh.
Shaikh Abdur Rahman, Mayor of Mongla Pourashava and Shaikh Kamruzzaman Jasim, General Secretary of Mongla Unit of Bangladesh Awami League visited the place of occurrence.
